01 May (HS): The Maharashtra Government’s Women and Child Development
Department succeeded in preventing 26 child marriages on Akshay Tritiya Day.
Minister for Women and Child Development Mweghna Sakore-Bopardikar had issued
instructions in advance to keep a close watch on child marriages, which are
mostly performed on Akshay Tritiya.
A special
meeting in virtual mode was convened to discuss the steps to be taken to
prevent child marriages in the state. Coordination with Anganwadi workers and the police department is necessary under the mission.
Bopardikar
said that preventing 26 child marriages in a single day is an appreciable
achievement. The department will continue to work to make the state free from
child marriages.
