30 km tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong highway

Dhaka, May 1 (HS): A 30-kilometer-long traffic jam occurred on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Bangladesh from midnight last night until this afternoon. This caused a severe disruption in traffic flow. The incident was triggered by a van overturning in the Nuritala area of Chandina. The jam extended all the way to Bhabharchar in the Munshiganj district. A few hours later, traffic was halted on both lanes of the highway.

According to a report from The Daily Star, traffic slowly resumed at around 12:30 PM today. There was a heavy volume of vehicles on the road in Gajaria. Ruhul Amin, the officer in charge of the Elliotganj highway police station, stated that the jam began a few hours after the accident last night, and the situation worsened as vehicles took wrong routes. Anwar Alam Azad, the officer in charge of the Gajaria police station, confirmed that the impact of the nighttime accident in Chandina extended to Bhabharchar by afternoon. During this time, stranded passengers expressed disappointment and exhaustion. Tanjia Akhtar, who was traveling with her family to a wedding ceremony in Debidwar, Cumilla, reported that their microbus had smoothly left Narayanganj but got stuck in Gajaria around 12:15 PM.
