Guwahati, 30 April (HS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Assam’s Mahila Shakti unit on Wednesday staged a strong protest in Guwahati against Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s said objectionable remarks on women during the Congress regime—that they got jobs through wrong means. Carrying placards in their hands, the women called the Chief Minister’s statement a direct attack on women’s dignity.
The party’s vice-president Anurupa Deka sharply asked the Chief Minister, Chief Minister Sir, which women lost their dignity? Why were you silent at that time? If you knew and still remained silent, then you are no less guilty than the criminals. Citing the name of Arnama Bora, a rape victim in the year 2021, he said, The Chief Minister has even put the identity of mothers and sisters at stake to win the election. Just as Draupadi was kept on the dice board in Mahabharata, even today women are being used as political pawns. History is repeating itself. Whoever does politics on women, his downfall is certain.
Many other members including Deputy Leader of Mahila Shakti Alaknanda Deka, Bimla Devi participated in this demonstration and raised their voice in favor of the dignity and rights of women. The Aam Aadmi Party sought an explanation from the Chief Minister on his statement and demanded a ban on the use of derogatory language against women in politics.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma, while reacting to his statement today, said that he has not said anything on his own behalf. He only quoted the statement of Gauhati High Court Judge (Retd.) Biplab Sharma and the mother of arrested APSC Chairman Rakesh Pal.
