New Delhi, April 24 (H.S.): Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta visited the Town Hall’s Record Room on Thursday, highlighting the need for digitizing its historic documents. He pointed out that the room preserves crucial records related to India’s democratic and legislative heritage, including municipal documents, budgets, and administrative records dating back to 1880.
Gupta praised the ongoing preservation efforts during his visit, noting that these documents narrate the evolution of India’s governmental and civic institutions. His initiative is in line with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s vision for maintaining and digitizing India’s legislative legacy.
Accompanied by senior officials, including the head of the Heritage Cell, Gupta discussed the importance of these records and the necessary measures for their long-term preservation. He stressed the importance of coordination among local bodies, heritage departments, and archival institutions for effective digitization, which would allow the public, researchers, and students greater access to India’s democratic history. The Indian Parliament Secretariat has committed to supporting this digitization effort.
