BCCI Congratulates Rohit Sharma on His Splendid Test Career

New Delhi, May 8 (HS): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended heartfelt wishes to Rohit Sharma on his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. The board praised his contributions as inspiring and remarkable and commended his illustrious career. Rohit has now bid farewell to both Test and T20 formats, but he will continue to be a part of India’s ODI team.

Rohit announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket with an emotional post on social media on Wednesday night.

Rohit Sharma made his debut in Test cricket in 2013 and took over as India’s 35th Test captain. In his 67 Test matches, he scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and a highest score of 212. Beyond the numbers, he has left a strong legacy of patience, leadership, and dedication for Indian cricket.

Once a middle-order batsman, Rohit Sharma has placed himself among the most successful openers in Test cricket. He provided strong starts to the team with a balance of technical strength and aggression. He played Test cricket with complete seriousness and responsibility.

Rohit captained the team in 24 Tests, out of which India won 12. He managed the team during a transitional phase and while dealing with injuries. His leadership inspired the youth, and his batting captured the hearts of millions of fans.

BCCI President Roger Binny said, Rohit Sharma’s impact goes far beyond statistics. He provided the team with stability, confidence, and discipline. His leadership qualities and calm nature have given Indian cricket a new direction.

Meanwhile, BCCI honorary secretary Devjit Sekhon stated, Rohit Sharma has not only been a remarkable batsman but also a captain who always prioritized the team. His discipline, humility, and excellence set an example for the current generation. Indian cricket will always be indebted to his contributions.

Although Rohit Sharma has bid farewell to white clothing, his contributions, style, and leadership will remain indelibly etched in the history of Indian cricket.
