New Delhi, April 30 (HS): The central government has approved a Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of ₹355 per quintal for sugarcane for the 2025-26 sugarcane crushing season (October to September).
The cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, granted this approval. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided this information on Wednesday.
According to the government, the cost of production of sugarcane is ₹173 per quintal. Thus, the FRP of ₹355 is 105.2 percent higher than the production cost. Additionally, this rate is 4.41 percent higher compared to the current season 2024-25.
This rate will apply at a basic recovery rate of 10.25 percent. For every 0.1 percent increase in recovery rate, an additional amount of ₹3.46 per quintal will be provided, while there will be a deduction of ₹3.46 for every 0.1 percent decrease in recovery. However, if the recovery rate falls below 9.5 percent, farmers will be paid at a rate of ₹329.05 per quintal with no deductions.
