Rio de Janeiro, May 26 (HS): Italian football legend Carlo Ancelotti arrived in Brazil on Sunday night, where he will now take on the role of the new head coach of the Brazilian national football team. The 65-year-old Ancelotti is the first full-time foreign coach to work for Brazil in the last century. He arrived at Rio International Airport around 9 PM local time on a private jet with his family and coaching staff.
Upon arriving in Brazil, Ancelotti was wearing a cap of the Brazilian national team, which signified the beginning of his new journey. However, there was no official welcome for him at the airport. Only one fan, dressed in a Brazilian jersey, was able to see him as he came out.
Ancelotti will formally start his new role as the head coach of the Brazil team during a press conference today. He will also announce the team for the upcoming South American World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Paraguay next month.
Just a few hours before his arrival, Samir Xaud was elected as the new president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). This election took place after a lengthy legal process that removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from his position. Notably, Rodrigues was the person who had appointed Ancelotti from Real Madrid. Ancelotti’s focus will now be on meeting with CBF leadership and sharing his plans with the media. His contract will last until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
