New Delhi, May 13 (HS): The central government has withdrawn the order to block the YouTube channel 4PM. This information was presented today by senior Advocate Kapil Sibal on behalf of 4PM to a bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai in the Supreme Court.
Sibal stated that this petition should be tagged with those petitions that demand the repeal of Rule 16 of the Information Technology Rules. Following that, the court ordered to tag this petition with the other petitions as well.
The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the central government on May 5.The petition was filed by journalist Sanjay Sharma, who runs the YouTube channel. During the hearing, Kapil Sibal requested the annulment of the order to block the YouTube channel. The petition demanded that the central government provide a justification for the order to block his channel. Sibal argued that the block was imposed without explaining the reasons, calling it arbitrary and entirely unconstitutional. The petition also sought the repeal of Rule 16 of the Information Technology Rules.
