Kolkata, 3 May (H.S.): Tensions are rising once again in West Bengal’s political landscape as the state CID has summoned the son-in-law of former BJP MP Arjun Singh in connection with a co-operative scam. He has been directed to appear at Bhawani Bhawan on May 5 for questioning. Arjun Singh has strongly denounced the move, terming it a political conspiracy.
According to reports, the summons is related to the Bhátpara-Naihati Co-operative corruption case. Reacting to the development, Singh claimed that the notice is part of a deliberate attempt to intimidate him and his family. “Mamata Banerjee is trying to threaten me by targeting my family members. But I want to make it clear that I will not be intimidated. My family is also mentally prepared to face this,” he said.
Arjun Singh has been at the center of several controversies in the past. Notably, on the night of March 26, a clash broke out among workers in the Meghna Mor area of Jagaddal. Singh alleged that when he arrived at the scene after receiving information, criminals opened fire on him. A young man was injured in retaliatory action, leading to heightened tensions in the area. Police began an investigation and summoned Singh for questioning, but he did not appear.
Subsequently, Singh was interrogated by police officers at the Bhátpara Workers’ Building. Shortly after, he left the state citing personal reasons. The Barasat court later issued an arrest warrant against him, though Singh managed to secure relief from the High Court.
The fresh CID summons to his son-in-law has once again brought the matter to the forefront, igniting political debate and raising questions over alleged vendetta politics in the state.
