New Delhi, May 13 (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition seeking the removal of social media posts shared against Anjali Birla, daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The High Court was informed by the social media platform X that 16 posts had been made about Anjali Birla, of which 12 had been removed by their creators. Access to the remaining 4 posts has been restricted for users. Following this information from X, Justice Jyoti Singh ordered the dismissal of Anjali Birla’s petition.
In her petition, Anjali Birla stated that a false allegation had been made against her that she passed the UPSC exam in her first attempt due to her father’s influence. The petition claimed that the assertions made on social media were false and defamatory. Various social media platforms had stated that Anjali Birla was a professional model and had passed the UPSC exam in her first attempt due to her father’s influence. Anjali Birla refuted these claims, asserting that the posts circulating on social media are part of a planned conspiracy aimed at tarnishing her father’s image.
In the petition, Anjali Birla named X (Twitter), Google, and John Doe as respondents. The petition requested the removal of such posts. Anjali Birla mentioned 16 Twitter handles in her petition from which she sought a directive for the removal of posts. The petition also referenced a parody account of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. It stated that contrary to the claims on social media, Anjali Birla is not an IAS officer but an IRPS officer. She passed the UPSC exam in 2019 and joined the IRPS in April 2021. In 2023, she completed her mandatory training.
