Dhaka, May 12 (HS): A Dhaka court in Bangladesh has ordered 12 police station chiefs to report by May 25 on the execution of arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 others related to irregularities in land allocation under the East Central Project. Notable figures among the accused include Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, and sister, Sheikh Rehana, along with Rehana’s son and daughters. The order was issued by Judge Mohammad Zakir Hussain after no progress report was presented by the police.
Arrest warrants were previously issued on April 13 and 15 following the acceptance of charges against those named. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed charges on March 25, declaring all accused as fugitives due to the lack of bail. Hasina is the principal accused in six cases concerning irregularities in allocating plots in Sector 27. The ACC claims Hasina colluded with Urban Improvement Department officials for these allocations. Additional accused include several officials connected to the cases. The investigation into alleged embezzlement involving Hasina and her family began in December 2024, also encompassing allegations of money laundering involving 300 million USD against Hasina and Joy in the U.S.
