New Delhi, July 19(HS): Spain and Argentina are set to clash in Finalissima 2026 in March, featuring the current UEFA Euro and Copa America champions. This match is part of the international window for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, contingent on Spain’s qualification.

According to Goal.com, UEFA, FIFA, the Spanish Football Federation, and the Argentine Football Association are collaborating to revive Finalissima, aiming to generate fan interest during a lull in international football.

Finalissima replaces the Artemio Franchi Cup, previously held in 1985 and 1993, with Argentina notably winning in 1993, shortly before Diego Maradona’s passing. Argentina secured the title again in 2022, defeating Italy 3-0. The upcoming Finalissima is scheduled between March 26 and 31, following initial discussions at the 75th FIFA Congress in Paraguay.

Spain recently won UEFA Euro 2024 by beating England 2-1, with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal. Meanwhile, Argentina triumphed in the Copa America 2024 final against Colombia, winning 1-0 thanks to Lautaro Martinez, marking Messi’s second Copa America win as he faced an emotional moment upon being substituted.
