London, June 21(HS): Premier League champions Liverpool have signed German forward Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million, making it the most expensive transfer in British football history. The 22-year-old Wirtz is recognized as a top young talent in European football, having led Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title and a German Cup victory in the 2023/24 season without a single loss. After the transfer, Wirtz expressed his happiness and pride, noting it was a special moment he had long awaited. He views this move as an exciting new chapter, eager to transition from the Bundesliga to the Premier League after hearing positive feedback from other players about the league.

Despite having two years remaining on his contract with Leverkusen, he was also a target for Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Wirtz is Liverpool’s second significant summer signing under new manager Arne Slot, joining former teammate Jeremy Frimpong. This marks a new, youthful era for Liverpool.
