Four Indian athletes, including Neeraj Chopra, to participate in Doha Diamond League on May 16

New Delhi, May 12 (H.S.): India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will compete in the prestigious Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 16 alongside three other Indian athletes. This will be the first time that four athletes from India will participate in a single event of the Diamond League.

Neeraj Chopra won the Doha Diamond League title in 2023, where he threw the javelin at a distance of 88.67 meters. In 2024, he finished in second place with a throw of 88.36 meters. He is expected to deliver a golden throw this time as well.

Alongside Neeraj, Kishore Jena will also compete in the men’s javelin throw event. Jena participated in 2024 as well and finished ninth with a throw of 76.31 meters. This time he will be aiming to improve his performance.

This time, India will have a strong presence in the track events as well. National record holder Gulveer Singh is set to make his Diamond League debut in the men’s 5000 meters race. Meanwhile, Parul Chaudhary, the Indian record holder for the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, will also compete.

Neeraj and Jena will face tough competition this time. They will be up against renowned athletes such as two-time world champion Anderson Peters (Grenada), the 2024 winner Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic), Julian Weber and Max Denning (Germany), Julius Yego (Kenya), and Roderick Dean (Japan).
