New Delhi, May 10 (H.S.): The central government has issued an advisory to all news channels to avoid using the sound of the ‘Civil Defense Air Raid Siren’ in their programs. In fact, this siren is used solely for community awareness campaigns.
In an advisory, the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defense, and Home Guard stated that invoking the powers granted under Section 3 (1) (w) (i) of the Civil Defense Act, 1968, all media channels are urged to avoid using the sound of the civil defense air raid siren in their programs, apart from educating the community.
It stated that the regular use of sirens could reduce citizens’ sensitivity to air raid sirens, leading them to perceive it as a routine occurrence used by media channels during actual air raids. It further mentioned that officials are eager to assist in enhancing civil defense preparations in accordance with the Civil Defense Act, 1968.
It is notable that this advisory has been issued in light of tensions between India and Pakistan.
