Grand Chess Tour 2025: Gukesh Wins Rapid Title in Zagreb

Zagreb (Croatia), July 5(HS): India’s D. Gukesh won the Rapid title at the Grand Chess Tour 2025’s Zagreb stage, achieving a total of 14 points. After losing the first round, he bounced back by winning five consecutive matches, notably defeating Magnus Carlsen. He drew with Anish Giri and Ivan Saric in the subsequent rounds before defeating Wesley So in the final round. Poland’s Jan-Krzysztof Duda finished second with 11 points, while Carlsen secured third place with 10 points.

India’s R. Praggnanandhaa tied for fourth with 9 points alongside Fabiano Caruana. The Blitz section will follow, with the overall champion determined by combined scores from both sections. This marks the third tournament of the Grand Chess Tour 2025, following previous stages in Poland and Romania, with additional tournaments planned in the U.S. and Brazil.
