India leads by 244 runs in Birmingham Test

Birmingham, July 5(HS): On the third day of the second Test at Edgbaston, India dominated the match after setting a formidable 587 runs in their first innings, with Shubman Gill scoring a historic double century of 269 runs. England struggled in response, managing only 407 runs, with six batsmen failing to score, marking a shameful record in Test cricket. Jamie Smith and Harry Brook attempted a comeback with a remarkable 303-run partnership for the sixth wicket, scoring 184 and 158 runs, respectively, but the rest of the batting lineup collapsed.

Key players, including captain Ben Stokes and others, went out for zero runs. Mohammed Siraj excelled for India, taking six wickets, while Akashdeep claimed four. By the close of play, India had reached 64 runs for one wicket in their second innings, with KL Rahul on 28 and Karun Nair on seven, extending their lead to 244 runs and solidifying their strong position in the match.
