New Delhi, May 10 (HS): U.S. President Donald Trump made a significant statement, announcing that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire following ongoing talks mediated by the United States. Trump stated that the agreement was reached after a long night of negotiations. In his official statement, Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete ceasefire. I congratulate both countries for demonstrating common sense and great wisdom.”
This statement comes at a time when tensions between the two countries were at their peak, and the international community was concerned about the possibility of war. Following Trump’s claim, India has also confirmed the agreement. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also confirmed this. Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always sought peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Earlier, the U.S. Secretary of State held talks with the Indian Foreign Minister, the Chief of the Pakistan Army, and their Foreign Minister today. After these talks, the possibility of reducing tension between the two countries seemed to increase. The U.S. had actively taken initiatives regarding the current tension between India and Pakistan. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. Additionally, Rubio also conversed with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Foreign Minister Jaishankar also shared the details of the discussions in a post. He remarked that India’s approach has always been balanced and responsible, and it remains so today.
Alongside this, Rubio spoke with the Chief of the Pakistan Army, General Asim Munir, over the phone. After both sides targeted military bases last night, today Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed hope in an interview with a Pakistani TV channel. He stated that recent diplomatic activities could open a dialogue with India. Dar said, “India should stop… if it stops, we will also stop. We do not want destruction and waste of resources.” He stated that Pakistan’s intention is to promote peace. The economies of the two countries are different, and war is not in anyone’s interest.
