IPL 2025: Gujarat Wins Match on Last Ball, Defeated Mumbai by 3 Wickets via Duckworth-Lewis

Mumbai, May 7 (H.S.): In the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched the win on the last ball under the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) rule. In this thrilling encounter, Gujarat defeated Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets.

Chasing a target of 156 runs set by Mumbai, Gujarat did not start well as Sai Sudharsan was out for just five runs. Following this, Jos Buttler and captain Shubman Gill stabilized the innings, taking the team’s score to 78 runs. Buttler was out for 30 runs at this score. Then Sharfeen Rutherford came onto the field and played some explosive shots, achieving the required run rate before the rain interruption. When the rain started, Gujarat needed to score 99 runs in 14 overs, and Rutherford’s fireworks helped them score 8 runs more.

After a brief interruption due to rain, when the game resumed, Mumbai deployed both of their main bowlers, which benefitted the team. In the next four overs, Gujarat scored 35 runs but lost four wickets. In the 18th over, at a score of 132, rain interrupted again, and this time, according to the DLS rule, Gujarat was behind the required score. About an hour later, when the match resumed, Gujarat had a revised target of 15 runs to make off 6 balls. This was accomplished by Tevatia and Gerald Coetzee off Deepak Chahar’s bowling, although Coetzee (12 runs) did get out during the process. Tevatia remained unbeaten with 11 runs. Captain Gill scored 43 runs in the match.

From Mumbai, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ashwini Kumar each took two wickets, while Deepak Chahar claimed one wicket.

Earlier, batting after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians scored 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. For Mumbai, Will Jacks scored 53 runs, Suryakumar Yadav scored 35 runs, and finally, Carbin Bosch scored 27 runs.

For Gujarat, Sai Kishore claimed two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan, and Gerald Coetzee each took one wicket.
