Ankara (Turkey), July 19(HS): US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack announced that Israel and Syria have reached a ceasefire agreement, supported by Turkey and Jordan. This follows recent Israeli airstrikes in Damascus and demands for government forces to withdraw to protect the Syrian Druze minority. Barrack urged Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to unite and build a new Syrian identity.
The ceasefire came as the U.S. sought to resolve the conflict, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledging agreed steps to end the troubling situation. The announcement coincided with a de-escalation after government troops’ withdrawal from violence-affected Sweida.
