New Delhi, 4 May (H.S.): Kagiso Rabada has acknowledged testing positive for recreational drugs, leading to a provisional suspension that resulted in his exit from IPL 2025 on April 3. Initially, his team, Gujarat Titans, stated he returned home for a significant personal matter, without providing further details on his return to India. Reports indicate that Rabada’s violation occurred during the SA20 tournament in January-February while he played for MI Cape Town. Although the duration of his suspension remains unconfirmed, he has traveled back to India and is expected to resume playing soon, having last played on March 29.

In a statement through the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA), Rabada expressed regret for his actions and reaffirmed his dedication to cricket. He apologized for disappointing his supporters, emphasizing the importance of the sport beyond personal ambitions. Rabada mentioned his provisional suspension and expressed eagerness to return. He acknowledged the support from his agent, CSA, Gujarat Titans, SACA, legal team, and his family during this challenging time.

SACA has refrained from commenting further, while the South African Agency for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS), a WADA signatory, is expected to release an update soon. Rabada’s situation is anticipated to be similar to past cases involving temporary suspensions for drug violations.
