Los Angeles National Guard deploys 2,000 soldiers

Conditions in Los Angeles, the largest city in California, deteriorated to such an extent that President Trump had to send 2,000 National Guard troops. Even after that, the situation did not improve. There has been rampant arson in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, June 9(HS): Los Angeles, California’s largest city, is engulfed in protests against the Trump administration’s immigration raids. In response, President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard soldiers to the streets, but violence escalated instead. On Saturday, law enforcement faced hundreds of demonstrators, resorting to rubber bullets, tear gas, and flashbang grenades after protests erupted over workplace raids seeking illegal workers. A second violent clash occurred downtown on Sunday. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Trump for exacerbating tensions by sending troops without state consent, labeling it an abuse of federal power.

Trump warned that protests hindering immigration officials would be seen as rebellion. The protests originated in Paramount, a small city south of Los Angeles with a significant Latino population, and have spread throughout the region. Concerns have arisen regarding Trump’s actions impacting next year’s World Cup. The National Guard attempted to assist immigration agents while dispersing protesters. Over three days of clashes, tear gas and rubber bullets were deployed near key locations, including the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building. The White House denied Governor Newsom’s request to withdraw the National Guard. Renewed protests have led to major confrontations, with demonstrators blocking the 101 Freeway and setting vehicles ablaze, targeting police horses amid escalating tensions.
