Madhyamik Examinee Dies by Suicide Over Low Marks, Shocks West Midnapore

Kolkata, 2 May (H.S.) : A tragic incident has sent shockwaves through West Midnapore’s Ghatal area, where a student ended his life just hours after the announcement of the Madhyamik examination results. The deceased has been identified as Ritam Ghosh, a resident of Gopinathpur under the Birsingh Gram Panchayat in Ghatal Block.

According to reports, Ritam appeared for the Madhyamik exams this year from Sri Aurobindo Vidyamandir. After checking his results and discovering that he had scored a total of 347 marks, he was reportedly devastated. Preliminary investigations suggest that he took the extreme step on Friday morning by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home.

Family members, upon returning home, found Ritam hanging and rushed him to the local hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Sources revealed that at the time of the incident, Ritam’s mother was attending a function and his father was also not at home, leaving the boy alone.

The news of the incident has plunged the entire village into mourning. His school is also reeling under grief. Gautam Jana, the acting headmaster of the school, expressed shock, saying, “Ritam was a bright student. We never imagined something like this could happen to him.”

Ritam’s family, shattered by the tragedy, said they had no idea that he would take such a drastic step just because of low marks.
