Madrid Open 2025: Coco Gauff Secures Final Spot by Defeating Swiatek

American tennis player Coco Gauff

Madrid, May 2 (H.S.): American tennis player Coco Gauff delivered a stunning defeat to current champion and world number two player Iga Swiatek in the semifinals of the Madrid Open 2025.

Gauff won the match in just 64 minutes with a score of 6-1, 6-1 to enter the tournament final.

Five-time Grand Slam winner from Poland, Swiatek appeared to struggle throughout the match. She could not secure a single break point and lost her serve five times. Gauff applied pressure on Swiatek by breaking her in the third, fifth, and seventh games of the first set.

This is the first time 21-year-old Coco Gauff has defeated Swiatek on clay. She broke Swiatek twice in the second set and capitalized on her first match point without making any errors.

Swiatek’s performance in this year’s Madrid Open has been inconsistent. She dropped sets against Alexandra Eala in the first round and then against Diana Schneider. In the quarterfinals, she faced a crushing defeat of 6-0 in the first set against Madison Keys, although she later made a comeback. However, in the semifinals, she appeared completely helpless against Gauff.

The second semifinal between Sabalenka and Svitolina

The tournament’s second semifinal will feature Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus and Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. Both players are currently in fantastic form, and the winner will face Gauff in the final.
