Wellington, May 23 (HS): Hayley Jensen, the experienced all-rounder of the New Zealand women’s cricket team, has bid farewell to cricket after an 11-year international career. The 32-year-old Jensen represented her country in 35 One Day Internationals and 53 T20 Internationals. She made her international debut in 2014.

Hayley Jensen has been part of four T20 World Cup teams, where in the tournament held in Australia in 2020, she was the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand.

Additionally, she also played in the One Day World Cup held in New Zealand in 2022. She had a remarkable performance in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she took 3 wickets in the bronze medal match against England, leading New Zealand to victory.

However, she has been out of the ODI team since the end of 2022. She was called back to the team for a T20 series against Sri Lanka in March 2024, but she could not participate in the series due to an injury.

Announcing her retirement, Jensen said, When I was 10 years old, I decided that I wanted to play for the White Ferns team. It has been incredibly special to have the opportunity to live this dream. It has been an incredible journey – filled with challenges, growth, and countless memorable moments.

New Zealand women’s team head coach Ben Sawyer praised Jensen’s career, saying, Hayley made significant contributions with both bat and ball on the field. Her dedication and passion for cricket are commendable. We wish her a bright future.

Hayley Jensen has clarified that she will decide later whether she will continue playing domestic cricket.
