New Delhi, May 15 (HS): The domestic stock market exhibited a remarkable turnaround during Thursday’s trading session. Initially, trading began flat, and the market experienced decline in the first half. However, post-1 PM, a surge in buying activity propelled both the Sensex and Nifty to recover sharply from their lows. The Sensex soared by 1,955 points, while the Nifty climbed 621 points intraday. By closing, the Sensex had risen by 1.48%, and the Nifty by 1.60%, marking the Nifty’s return above the 25,000 level for the first time since October 2024.

The day’s rally resulted in significant investor gains, with the total wealth in the domestic stock market increasing by over ₹5 lakh crore, raising the market capitalization of listed companies to approximately ₹439.99 lakh crore, up from ₹434.89 lakh crore on the previous day. This shift resulted in investors earning around ₹5.10 lakh crore in profits throughout the day. All sectoral indices finished in positive territory, with the metal, realty, and automobile sectors showing the most significant buying interest. Gains were also noted in banking, IT, public sector enterprises, oil and gas, consumer durables, capital goods, pharmaceuticals, and tech sectors.

The trading session saw the Sensex open modestly at 81,354.43 points, followed by a drop of 568.40 points to 80,762.16 points due to early selling pressure. However, strong global market signals and increased foreign investment spurred a resurgence, with the index hitting a high of 82,718.14 points before closing at 82,530.74 points. The Nifty similarly opened at 24,694.45 points but fell to 24,494.45 points before rebounding to close at 25,062.10 points.
