Novak Djokovic Accepts Wild Card Into Geneva Open Tennis Tournament

Novak Djokovic

New Delhi, May 10 (H.S.): Novak Djokovic will compete in the Geneva Open in search of his first clay court victory of the season. Tournament organizers confirmed on Friday that the Serbian star will participate in this tournament, which runs from May 17 to 24. It is the last warm-up event for players before the French Open.

No wins on clay courts so far

The sixth-seeded Djokovic has not recorded a win in the European clay court season this year. He exited early at the Monte Carlo and Madrid Opens. His record so far stands at 0-2. This time, he aims to secure the 100th title of his career.

Challenges in Geneva and birthday hopes

In the Geneva Open, Djokovic will face challenges from players such as number 4 Taylor Fritz and reigning champion Casper Ruud. Ruud has won titles in three of the last four editions. Interestingly, Djokovic could once again celebrate his 38th birthday (May 22) in Geneva.

Lessons from last year

Last year, Djokovic lost to Tomas Machak in the semifinals and then reached the quarterfinals of the French Open. However, he withdrew from the match against Casper Ruud due to a knee injury, which also led him to lose his number 1 ranking.
