Delhi, 17 May (H.S.): Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has admitted India’s missile strike on the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi during Operation Sindoor, marking a significant departure from Pakistan’s usual denial of Indian military actions. In a viral video from a special event in Islamabad, Sharif revealed that Army Chief General Asim Munir informed him at 2:30 am on May 9-10 about the missile strikes on the airbase and other locations. He noted the confidence and patriotism in Munir’s voice during the call.
On May 10, the Pakistani military claimed that Indian missiles and drones targeted three of its airbases: Nur Khan in Rawalpindi, Murid in Chakwal, and Rafiqui in Jhang district. Significant damage to several airbases, including Nur Khan, PAF Base Mushaf, Bholari, and PAF Base Shahbaz, was later confirmed by recent satellite images from Maxar Technologies, showing destruction consistent with an attack.
In response to Sharif’s remarks, Indian political leaders criticized him, highlighting the implications of being informed about such strikes in the middle of the night. Bharatiya Janata Party IT head Amit Malviya commented on the scale and boldness of the operation, while Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed satisfaction at Sharif’s apparent unawareness of the attacks on terror bases under his jurisdiction.
