Vatican City, May 18 (H.S.): The oath-taking ceremony for the new Pope Leo XIV will take place today, Sunday, at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. According to Indian time, the ceremony will begin at 1:30 PM and will last for a full two hours. Leaders from around the world have already arrived in Vatican City to attend this oath-taking ceremony.
The former Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Francis, passed away last month on April 21 at the age of 88. Following this, on May 8, the cardinals voted to elect Leo as the new Pope. The new Pope Leo’s real name is Robert Francis Prevost. According to Catholic tradition, after the oath-taking, the new Pope will be presented with a religious garment and a ring. These gifts symbolize the new Pope’s assumption of office.
According to a report, the oath-taking ceremony will be attended by several politicians and religious leaders from various countries, including U.S. Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his wife Jeanette Rubio, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
