Jaipur, 25 May (H.S.): Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta was vocal in her criticism of the third umpire following a controversial decision during the team’s match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. After the game, Zinta took to social media to express her frustration over what she deemed an unacceptable mistake in a prestigious tournament. The incident occurred during the 15th over when Shashank Singh appeared to have hit a six off Mohit Sharma, but the third umpire ruled otherwise.
This decision sparked further controversy as boundary fielder Karun Nair signaled that the ball had gone over the boundary after attempting to catch it. The third umpire found no evidence of Nair’s foot touching the boundary line and awarded the Punjab Kings just a single run instead of the expected six. In a response to a fan, Zinta revealed she had spoken to Nair, who confirmed that the ball had indeed crossed the boundary.
The loss significantly impacted Punjab Kings’ chances of finishing in the top two of the tournament; they must win their final league match against Mumbai Indians to stay in contention. Despite their efforts, even a victory doesn’t guarantee a spot, depending on the outcomes of other matches. The match concluded with Delhi Capitals chasing down 207 runs with six wickets in hand.
