New Delhi, April 25 (HS): President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Pope Francis on Friday at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Minister Kiren Rijiju and Minister of State George Kurian were also present to honor the occasion alongside President Murmu.

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Rome today to attend Pope Francis’s funeral, expressing condolences on behalf of the Government of India and the people. The Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson shared images of her paying tribute.

President Droupadi Murmu is on a two-day visit to attend the funeral of the Catholic Church leader, Pope Francis. She will participate in the funeral ceremony held on Saturday at St. Peter’s Square, which will also be attended by several prominent leaders from around the world.

Pope Francis passed away on April 21. In honor of his death, India announced a three-day period of national mourning. There will also be state mourning in India on April 26, the day of the funeral.
