PSG makes stunning start in FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Atlético Madrid 4-0

PSG thrash Atletico Madrid 4-0 to start their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup

Pasadena (Los Angeles), June 16(HS): Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) dominated Atletico Madrid with a convincing 4-0 victory in their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup at the Rose Bowl Stadium. From the outset, PSG controlled the game, with Fabian Ruiz scoring in the 19th minute. Atletico’s best chance came from Antoine Griezmann, but his shot was saved by Donnarumma, leading to a quick counterattack by PSG, where Vitinha scored to double the lead. Despite substitutions, Atletico remained under pressure, and a disallowed goal from Julian Alvarez marked a frustrating second half for them.

The situation worsened when defender Clement Lenglet was red-carded, leaving Atletico with ten men. In the 87th minute, substitute Saini Mailou extended the lead to 3-0, and Kang-In Lee scored a penalty during injury time following a handball by Robin Le Normand, sealing the score at 4-0. PSG’s coach Luis Enrique expressed ambition for the season, while Diego Simeone of Atletico acknowledged the difficulty of the loss, emphasizing the need for future victories.
