Punjab Government Engaged in Dirty Politics Over Water: Parvesh Sahib Singh

Delhi's Public Works Department, Legislative Affairs, Irrigation & Flood Control, Water and Gurudwara Elections Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh

New Delhi, May 1 (H.S.): Delhi’s Public Works and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh accused the Punjab government of engaging in dirty politics regarding water, stating that halting water supply to Haryana and Delhi endangers millions of lives. He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party for attempting to create a water crisis out of spite after being rejected by the people of Delhi.

Parvesh emphasized that the Delhi government is committed to ensuring a clean and sufficient water supply for every household, despite the challenges posed by the city’s vastness. He condemned the Punjab government’s actions as insensitive and malicious, stressing that water should not be politicized as it is essential for life.

Parvesh clarified that Delhi receives 270 cusecs of water from the Bhakra Dam, which serves approximately 7.6 million people, and highlighted the risk of a serious water crisis if this supply is disrupted. He pointed out that 90 percent of Delhi’s water relies on external sources, illustrating the critical nature of adequate water access, especially during peak heat conditions.
