Bareli, 29 April (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the Congress MP and Leader of the
Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will make a quick visit to Kanpur on Wednesday to
meet with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, who was one of 26 people murdered in
the Pahalgam terror incident on April 22. Rahulji would visit Shubham’s family
in Kanpur after his visits to Raebareli and Amethi, UP Congress Committee chief
Ajay Rai said on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Gandhi began a two-day tour to Raebareli,
his Lok Sabha seat, and bordering Amethi, his old constituency from which he
was elected MP three times.
Earlier
in the day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi wrote to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a joint session of both houses of Parliament
to address the Pahalgam assault matter.
Rai
described how Gandhi had hurried to Kashmir after learning about the terror
attack to meet with the families of the dead and injured. The Congress and its
leaders have long prioritized national unity.
Rahul ji intends to visit with Shubham’s family to express his
condolences and tell them that the Congress party is with them at this hour of
grief, according to Rai, who attended Shubham’s funeral on April 23.
On
April 23, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Kanpur to meet
with Shubham’s family. After meeting with the family, Adityanath stated that no
stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror
attack to justice.
After
arrival at Lucknow airport on Tuesday, Gandhi went directly to Raebareli, where
he was seen chatting with the crowds before unveiling a monument of Subhas
Chandra Bose at Civil Lines Chauraha. Before Gandhi arrived in Raebareli,
several BJP officials had up anti-Gandhi posters.
Tum
jaativaad se todoge; hum rashtravaad se jodenge. Rahul Gandhi ji hamari Rae Bareli ko
jaativaad main mat uljhayiyen (we will defeat your attempt to divide people
along caste lines by uniting them through patriotism), stated a billboard put
up by a BJP leader in Harchandpur. Just before Gandhi’s travel to Uttar
Pradesh, a poster dubbed ‘Gayab’ (missing) issued by Congress’s social media
handle appeared to attack the BJP’s senior leadership over the Pahalgam terror
incident, sparking new political controversy, with numerous BJP officials
condemning the Congress post.
