New Delhi/Mumbai, May 17 (HS): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue new ₹20 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. These notes will bear the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

In a statement released on Saturday, the RBI announced that banknotes of ₹20 denomination will be issued in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series, which will feature the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. According to the statement, the design of these notes is similar in every aspect to the ₹20 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series.

The central bank stated that all ₹20 banknotes issued in the past by the Reserve Bank will remain legal tender. The design of the new ₹20 banknotes will be the same as the existing ₹20 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. According to the RBI, there will be no change in design, color, or security features.

The statement further specified that all previous versions of the ₹20 notes issued by the Reserve Bank will continue to be considered legal tender and will remain in circulation with the new series. The central bank mentioned that this update is part of the regular issuance of banknotes by the RBI, in which the signature of the Reserve Bank Governor has been updated. The RBI asserted that this does not affect the validity of the existing ₹20 currency notes of the same denomination already in the market.
