New Delhi, May 23 (HS): Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), stated on Friday that his group plans to invest ₹75,000 crore in the Northeast states for the establishment of 350 biogas plants and for the expansion of its telecommunications services, retail business, and clean energy projects.
While addressing the ‘Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025’ held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Mukesh Ambani mentioned that Reliance Jio will connect all schools, hospitals, enterprises, and homes in the Northeast states with artificial intelligence (AI). He noted that Jio has already covered 90% of the region’s population, including more than 5 million 5G customers, with the aim of doubling this number this year.
Mukesh Ambani emphasized that Jio’s priority is to bring the revolutionary power of artificial intelligence to all schools, hospitals, enterprises, and homes. He also promised to double Reliance’s investment in the Northeast states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, targeting ₹75,000 crore. Reliance has already invested nearly ₹30,000 crore in the region over the past 40 years.
During the Rising Northeast Investors Summit, Mukesh Ambani outlined six key commitments to accelerate the region’s development, which include investment, connectivity, agriculture, clean energy, healthcare, and sports. As part of this, he announced significant initiatives of Reliance Foundation in the Northeast, including a new 150-bed hospital in Manipur, a genomic research partnership with Mizoram University, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art diagnostics lab in Guwahati to bring world-class cancer care to the region.
Mukesh Ambani also shared plans to set up Olympic training centers in all eight states to prepare the next generation of sports champions. Additionally, he announced plans to significantly increase solar energy production in the region. He said, In line with this, we will transform the vast barren lands of this region into prosperous land by establishing 350 integrated compressed biogas plants. He added, Northeast has a treasure trove of world-class talents in various sports. Reliance Foundation will collaborate with all eight states to establish Olympic training centers that will prepare our youth to become tomorrow’s medal winners at the Olympics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day ‘Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025’ at Bharat Mandapam today. On this occasion, he referred to the Northeast as the engine of the country’s development, stating that the region is filled with immense possibilities for growth.
