New Delhi, May 13 (H.S.): Retail inflation has fallen to 3.16 percent in April, the lowest in nearly six years, largely driven by reduced prices of vegetables, fruits, and protein-rich foods. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, this annual decrease represents a drop from 3.34 percent in March 2025 and 4.83 percent in April 2024.

Food inflation in April stands at 1.78 percent, compared to 2.69 percent in March and 8.7 percent a year prior. Rural inflation decreased from 3.25 percent to 2.92 percent, while urban inflation dropped from 3.43 percent to 3.36 percent, both remaining within the Reserve Bank of India’s 4 percent target. The Reserve Bank projects CPI-based retail inflation will hover around this target for the financial year 2025-26, estimating 3.6 percent in Q1, 3.9 percent in Q2, 3.8 percent in Q3, and 4.4 percent in Q4.
