
New Delhi, April 24 (HS): The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Vikas Yadav, who is serving a sentence in the Nitish Katara murder case, until May 8 for the care of his ill mother. A bench headed by Justice A.S. Oka stated that Vikas Yadav’s mother should be admitted to AIIMS hospital for two days for an assessment of her health condition.
The court directed a panel of doctors from AIIMS to submit a health report on Vikas Yadav’s mother by May 7. The court ordered Vikas Yadav to furnish a bond of one lakh rupees. It instructed him to remain at his residence in Ghaziabad during his interim bail period, allowing him only to travel to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad. The court also stated that he should not contact any witnesses during the interim bail period.
Vikas Yadav is the son of influential leader D.P. Yadav from Uttar Pradesh. Nitish Katara was murdered on February 17, 2002. Nitish Katara was in a romantic relationship with Vikas Yadav’s sister, Bharti Yadav, which was not accepted by the Yadav family. In this case, Vikas Yadav’s sentence was reduced by the Supreme Court to 25 years on October 3, 2016.
