Delhi, 23 June (H.S.): The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has launched a significant tender for the offtake of Green Ammonia to decarbonize India’s fertilizer sector. The tender, issued on 07th June 2024, seeks 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from 13 fertilizer plants under the SIGHT Scheme – Mode 2A, Tranche I, with a bid submission deadline of 26th June 2025. SECI will facilitate demand aggregation and secure long-term offtake contracts, providing 10 years of market certainty for producers. The initiative transitions ammonia production from fossil fuels to renewable energy, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with fertilizer production.

To support this transition, the government offers financial incentives under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, providing Production Linked Incentives (PLI) totaling ₹1,533.4 crore. A robust Payment Security Mechanism ensures timely payments from fertilizer companies, boosting supplier confidence and participation. This bidding will utilize SECI’s e-reverse auction model for competitive pricing.

India, consuming 17-19 million tonnes of ammonia yearly, relies heavily on imported natural gas for hydrogen production; SECI’s initiative aims to reduce this dependence while also addressing price volatility and trade deficits. Producing green hydrogen emits significantly less CO₂ than conventional methods. Furthermore, domestic green ammonia production will enhance economic resilience and create employment opportunities. By stimulating both demand and supply, SECI’s tender tackles challenges in the hydrogen economy, aligning with India’s net-zero goals for 2070 and supporting sustainable growth and self-reliance. Bidders are invited to submit competitive proposals, reinforcing SECI’s role in pioneering clean energy advancements.
