
Lucknow, May 20 (HS): In a crucial match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), Lucknow Super Giants faced defeat. Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets, knocking them out of the playoff race. Thus, the team led by Rishabh Pant became the fifth team to be eliminated from playoff contention.
In the match played on Monday, Lucknow batted first after losing the toss and scored 205 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. An opening partnership of 115 runs occurred between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram for Lucknow. Marsh was dismissed after scoring 65 runs, while Markram scored 61 runs. After that, Nicholas Pooran played a knock of 45 runs. No other batsman from their side crossed the double-digit figure.
For Hyderabad, Ishan Malanga took two wickets, while Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one wicket each.
Chasing the target of 206, Hyderabad started with a setback. Opening batsman Atharva Taide was dismissed after scoring 13 runs. After that, Abhishek Sharma stabilized the innings with Ishan Kishan. The two shared a partnership of 82 runs for the second wicket in 35 balls. Abhishek was out after scoring 59 runs off 20 balls, caught out by Dighvesh Rathi off Shardul Thakur’s bowling.
Then, Ishan Kishan got support from Heinrich Klaasen. Both played some good shots and added 41 runs together. Kishan was out after scoring 35 runs off 28 balls, while Klaasen returned to the pavilion after making 47 runs. Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis scored 32 runs before retiring hurt due to a hamstring issue. Aniket Verma and Nitish Kumar Reddy remained not out at five runs each.
For Lucknow, Dighvesh Rathi took two wickets, while William Orucrke and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.
