New Delhi, June 9(HS): On the first trading day of the week, the domestic stock market exhibited a strong performance. The Sensex closed up by 0.31 percent, and the Nifty rose by 0.40 percent, maintaining a positive trend despite fluctuations due to a competition between buyers and sellers. All sectoral indices except Realty ended positively, with notable gains in Banking, IT, and Media sectors. Additionally, Capital Goods, Consumer Durables, Healthcare, Tech, Public Sector Enterprises, Oil and Gas, and Metal indices also performed well. The BSE Midcap index increased by 1.03 percent, and the Smallcap index rose by 1.19 percent, showing continuous buying in the broader market.
Investor wealth surged by around ₹4 lakh crore as the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies climbed to ₹455.08 lakh crore, up from ₹451.13 lakh crore last Friday, indicating a profit of approximately ₹3.95 lakh crore from today’s activity. On the BSE, 4,335 shares were traded; 2,805 closed higher, while 1,399 declined, and 131 remained unchanged. The NSE saw 2,642 shares traded, with 1,870 gaining and 772 losing.
The BSE Sensex opened at 82,574.55 points, gaining 385.56 points. It peaked at 82,669 points before profit booking caused a drop to 82,369.24 points later in the day. Ultimately, it closed at 82,445.21 points, up 256.22 points. The NSE Nifty opened at 25,160.10 points, increased by 157.05 points, fluctuated with selling pressure, and finally closed at 25,103.20 points, up 100.15 points.
