
New Delhi, May 6 (HS): The domestic stock market displayed weakness in early trading today, initially starting with slight gains before succumbing to selling pressure.
Following the first hour, the Sensex was down by 0.30 percent, while the Nifty decreased by 0.32 percent. Major stocks like Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, and Eicher Motors observed gains between 2.76 percent and 1.33 percent. Conversely, Jio Financial, Cipla, and Adani Enterprises experienced declines ranging from 2.31 percent to 1.71 percent. In total, 2,392 stocks were actively traded, with 649 in the green, and 1,743 in the red.
Within the Sensex, only 7 out of 30 stocks were gaining, while 23 were under pressure, and in the Nifty, 16 of 50 stocks were rising, with 34 declining.
The BSE’s Sensex opened at 80,907.24, up by 110.40 points, but quickly fell to 80,518.57 due to selling activity. Despite intermittent buyer support, sellers maintained dominance.
By 10:15 AM, the Sensex had dropped by 239.65 points to 80,557.19. The Nifty, starting at 24,500.75 with an initial gain, fell to 24,369.10 due to profit booking.
After the first hour, the Nifty was down by 77.15 points at 24,384. In contrast, on the previous trading day, the Sensex closed up 294.85 points at 80,796.84, and the Nifty ended up by 114.45 points at 24,461.15.
