New Delhi, May 23 (HS): After Thursday’s dip, the domestic stock market rebounded impressively today, buoyed by positive global cues and declining US bond yields, fostering optimism among foreign investors. Robust buying support propelled the Sensex to surge over a thousand points from its low, while the Nifty experienced a near 300-point increase during intraday trading. By the day’s end, the Sensex had risen by 0.95%, and the Nifty by 0.99%. Continued purchasing was particularly evident in the banking, FMCG, and IT sectors, with gains also noted in the automobile, capital goods, consumer durables, metal, oil and gas, public sector enterprises, and tech indices. Conversely, slight selling pressure in the healthcare sector led to a minor decline of 0.01% in the BSE healthcare index.

The broader market reflected ongoing buying trends, as the BSE mid-cap index closed up by 0.50%, and the small-cap index by 0.45%. Today’s strong stock market performance resulted in an increase in investors’ wealth by nearly ₹3 lakh crore, with the BSE’s market capitalization rising to ₹441.88 lakh crore from ₹438.98 lakh crore on the previous trading day, translating to a profit of around ₹2.90 lakh crore.

On the BSE, trading was active in 4,106 shares, with 2,361 closing higher, 1,589 lower, and 156 stable. The NSE saw movement in 2,557 shares, with 1,580 gaining and 977 losing. Among the Sensex’s 30 shares, 29 ended higher, and among the Nifty’s 50 shares, 48 closed in the green. Today, the BSE Sensex opened at 80,897 points but surged past 81,000 due to vigorous buying, peaking at 81,905.17 points before pulling back slightly to end at 81,721.08 points. The Nifty also started positively at 24,639.50 points, reaching 24,909.05 points before closing at 24,853.15 points following minor profit booking. Top gainers included Eternal, HDFC Life, and Jio Financial, while Sun Pharmaceutical and Grasim Industries featured among the top losers.
