Sudirman Cup 2025: Defending champion China beats Japan to reach final

Beijing, May 3 (HS): Defending champion China advanced to the finals of the Sudirman Cup 2025 by defeating Japan 3-0 on Saturday. With this remarkable victory, China is now very close to claiming a record 14th title. In this match played in front of a home crowd, China showcased its dominance in every game.

China’s World No. 2 mixed doubles pair of Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping started the match strongly, defeating Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Arisa Igarashi 21-11, 21-17. Following that, top seed Shi Yuki easily beat Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in men’s singles with a score of 21-8, 21-16, giving China a 2-0 lead.

The women’s singles match was quite exciting, where Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi ignited hopes of a comeback by winning the first game. However, China’s Chen Yufei made a strong comeback and won the match 17-21, 21-9, 21-16, securing a clean sweep for China.

The 13-time champions China will face either South Korea or 1989 champions Indonesia in the finals. The semifinal between these two teams is scheduled to be played this evening. Now, China’s focus is on making its title journey even more glorious by winning the Sudirman Cup for the 14th time.
