Kolkata, 1 May (H.S.) –
Senior Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy has once again been hospitalised after experiencing health complications on Wednesday. The 77-year-old parliamentarian from Dum Dum was rushed to a private hospital in Belgharia, where doctors implanted a pacemaker in his chest following a thorough medical evaluation. His condition is currently reported to be stable.
Roy was on his way to inaugurate a temple in Ariadaha on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya when he suddenly fell ill. Those accompanying him acted swiftly and transported him to the hospital, where immediate medical attention was provided.
According to hospital sources, after comprehensive tests, the medical team decided that a pacemaker was necessary to stabilise his heart condition. State Education Minister Bratya Basu and Baranagar MLA Sayantika Banerjee visited Roy at the hospital. Speaking to the media, Banerjee said, “He has been kept in isolation as a precautionary measure against infection. His condition is currently stable.”
This is not the first time the veteran leader has faced a health scare. On March 10, shortly after the conclusion of the Parliament session, Roy had complained of uneasiness and excessive sweating. He was wheeled out of the Parliament premises and taken to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by fellow MPs, where an ECG was performed. At that time, however, he was not admitted.
A respected figure in the TMC, Roy’s recurring health issues have raised concerns within the party and among his supporters. Doctors continue to monitor his condition closely as he recovers from the recent procedure.
