Kyiv/Moscow, June 9 (H.S.): The war between Ukraine and Russia persists with escalating violence on both sides. Key developments include Ukraine’s claims of shooting down Russian MiG-31 and Su-34 fighter jets, while Russia reportedly launched 479 drone attacks on Ukraine, resulting in widespread destruction. Ukrainian armed forces targeted the Savasleka Airbase, downing two Russian fighter jets amid Operation Spiderweb, aimed at crippling Russia’s aerial capabilities. Significant strikes were also carried out against military airfields in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, crucial for launching Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
On June 7, Ukraine successfully intercepted a Su-35 bomber using an F-16 Viper missile. Ukrainian officials allege Russia has suffered considerable losses, estimated at seven billion dollars, due to these confrontations. The Moscow Times reported a record of drone usage by Russia, causing damage across Ukraine, with the mayor of Rivne describing it as the largest attack since the war started. Ukrainian forces claimed to have downed 460 of the drones and intercepted most missiles fired during these assaults.
Additionally, Ukraine struck an electronics factory in Russia involved in drone production, prompting a temporary halt in operations. Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov avoided discussing potential exchanges of prisoners with Kyiv, suggesting to “wait and see” regarding negotiations. The ongoing exchanges reflect the ferocity of the conflict, with both countries remaining committed to their military objectives.
