Lucknow,
03 May (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government said on Saturday that it is upgrading
the SHe-Box platform, a measure that might reduce workplace harassment of
women. The improved digital platform will provide prompt and secure complaint
resolution, resulting in a safe and respected work environment for women,
according to a statement. According to the administration, the creation of Internal
Committees has been made essential across all government and private
institutions in the state, following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s
directions. It further stated that 84 departments have already formed these
committees and uploaded required information to the SHe-Box platform. The structure is currently in place in all 75
districts.
Any
organization with ten or more workers is obliged to form an Internal Committee
comprised of at least half women members, with a woman serving as chair,
according to the statement, which adds that the facility also applies to private
organizations. District Probation Officers are in charge of monitoring the
campaign in their districts, while NGOs have been tasked with protecting women
in unorganized sectors, according to the report.
The
Women’s Welfare Department has directed that each institution organize an
Internal Committee to immediately register and handle workplace harassment
concerns, it added.
Non-compliance
will result in legal action. Each
committee will have 4-5 members, depending on the size of the workforce. The plan is being aggressively implemented
with NGO backing and departmental oversight, according to the government.
Anu
Singh, Deputy Director and Nodal Officer of the Women and Child Development Department,
stated that the SHe-Box is a single-window online platform where any woman,
whether in government or private employment, may register a sexual harassment
complaint. This
includes unwelcome physical contact, disrespectful gestures, rude remarks, or
any demand made in return for employment, she stated. When
a complaint is received, it is routed straight to the appropriate internal or
local committee, which must address it within 90 days. The platform maintains everything anonymous
and provides the complainant with a tracking ID so she may verify the status of
her complaint, Singh added.
She
said that the portal is especially beneficial to women in small towns and
villages who may be afraid to register complaints locally. The project builds
on previous initiatives, such as Mission Shakti, in which the Yogi government
encouraged women’s empowerment, according to the statement.
