US promotes direct dialogue to ease India-Pakistan tensions

New Delhi, May 10 (HS): The United States has actively initiated efforts regarding the current tensions between India and Pakistan. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. Additionally, Rubio also talked with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. This information was provided by the spokesperson for the US State Department, Tammy Bruce, in separate statements.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also shared information about the conversation in a post. He mentioned that India’s approach has always been balanced and responsible, and continues to be so today. During the conversation, Rubio told Jaishankar that both countries should seek measures to reduce tensions. He also stated that the process of direct dialogue between India and Pakistan should be resumed. This would help avoid misunderstandings and improve the situation. Rubio also proposed that the United States could assist in initiating constructive dialogue between the two countries. He suggested that this could help prevent future disputes.

In addition, Rubio reiterated the same points during his conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. He stressed that both sides should seek ways to reduce tensions and restore direct dialogue. He also offered assistance from the United States. Prior to this, US Secretary of State Rubio had a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir. During the conversation, Rubio urged both countries to seek ways to reduce tensions and offered help in initiating constructive discussions. The direct conversation between the US Secretary of State and Pakistan’s Army Chief is a significant development, as he had previously only spoken with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
