New Delhi, May 6 (H.S.): The West Indies Cricket Board announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland and England on Monday. Most of the players included in the team are the same ones who defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in December. However, Shimron Hetmyer, who is busy with the IPL, will not be a part of this tour, while young batsman Jewel Andrew has made a comeback to the team.
Shai Hope will once again take charge of the team. Brandon King and Evin Lewis are likely to open the innings, while Kisean Karty may bat at number three. Aamir Jangoo, who scored a brilliant century off 79 balls in his debut match in St Kitts, will hope to secure a regular spot this time.
Shamar Joseph and Matthew Ford, who missed the Bangladesh series, are now fully fit and have returned to the team. The fast bowling department also includes players like Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Romario Shepherd.
The West Indies team is currently ranked ninth in the ICC ODI rankings and is working hard to qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup. The three-match series against Ireland will begin on May 21 in Dublin, followed by three ODIs in England starting May 29, and then a T20 series.
Head coach Darren Sammy said, After the victories against Bangladesh and England, there is a development of consistency in the team. The conditions in Ireland and England will be challenging, but our cricket style and mindset are progressing towards the World Cup.
West Indies has also made changes to its coaching staff. Former fast bowler Ravi Rampaul has been appointed as the bowling coach in place of James Franklin. Additionally, former Irish all-rounder Kevin O’Brien will join the support staff for the Ireland tour.
