Washington, May 16 (HS): The US administration is optimistic about an imminent meeting between President Trump and President Putin, according to Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to Trump and Senior Director for Counterterrorism. He expressed that the timing is right for the two leaders to convene during an international security conference hosted by Politico. Gorka emphasized that various deals are continuously being formulated, although he provided vague responses to additional inquiries.
Notably, when asked about Trump’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul, he firmly stated no. Gorka underscored the importance of avoiding stubborn attitudes among the parties involved. He assured that Trump would attend the signing of any final agreement but declined to comment on discussions regarding Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that no meeting between Trump and Putin is planned for the near future.
